Age care across the world: discovering the French recipe

As part of the development of its strategic project, the management team of the Australian Unity Group conducted an international study mission to discover the best medical and social systems in the world. In a fortnight, they traveled to Canada, the United States and France.

France
In France, the Australian delegation met with several actors from the medico-social sector to discover the French model of hospitalization at home, unique in the world because of its deployment and the importance of the acts performed. Nicolas Noiriel, national delegate of FNEHAD, presented the issues of the sector. A meeting with management of the non-profit organization UNA completed the presentation on home care. In the ORPEA exceptional residence in Trocadero, Kevin McCoy's team discovered the development strategy of the first European group.

United States
In Chicago, the Australian participants had the opportunity to meet Andrew Carle, an expert on the University Based Retirement Community (UBRC) model. The visit to Admiral at the Lake completed this presentation with a field trip to understand how seniors' activities are included in the operation of the University of Chicago.

In Louisiana, the delegation exchanged with the management team of Louisiana Home Care, the leader in home care in the United States. They also visited the Woldenberg Village Continuing Care Community, which offers a full range of services, from skilled nursing home to residential services, day care and memory care.

Canada
The Australian Unity Group serves important Aboriginal communities. The visit of St Elizabeth Healthcare near Toronto was an opportunity to exchange very fruitful practices. SE First Nations, Inuit and Métis (FNIM) Program works to support the recognition, understanding and practice of nation-based, culturally safe and community-driven approaches to First Nations, Inuit and Métis health and wellbeing.
